It is with a mixed feeling that I penn this. On the one side
I am overwhelmed by the confidence my fellow Members have
put on me by electing me to this post and on the other side
the serious challenges in front, some of which are even
threatening the very existence of this unique sports agency.
Let me assure all Members that it will be my Endeavour to
bring in a member friendly management culture so that the
club ambience will make it an ideal place for tennis,
recreation, social meetings and relaxation.
The major challenge posing a serious threat is the
relationship with the Govt. vis-à-vis the club premise dues.
With the present tempo of activities, this most serious
threat needs all attention, efforts and priority.
Tennis is the main stay of our activities. Tennis
coaching/training needs to be much more focused with an
emphasis on building up competitive sprit all-round. Towards
this, an action plan is to be worked out to organise
tournaments at different levels more frequently. Commitment
of trainees needs to be derived towards participation for
which parent level support is most essential. With the
Tennis infrastructure we have, TTC should emerge as the hub
for Regional Tennis coaching. An urge for carving out state
champions and a national champions in a not too distant
future should be our vision. Needless to say that National
and International tournaments need to be staged in a viable
mode to revive the dying spirit of tennis in Trivandrum.
Of late, there has been lot of demands about building up of
support infrastructure facilities. The big question here is
the matching of resources and needs. Perhaps, the best
solution would be to approach this in phases matching with
our means.
My colleagues in the Executive Committee have been assigned
specific responsibilities with adequate delegation for the
smooth management of the club. We are in the process of
giving shape to a calender of events so that some forward
planning can be attempted. I am confident, their initiatives
will meet your expectations
All these efforts need to be on a participative platform and
I seek whole hearted support of all Members in our
endeavors. Feedback is an essential component in this. Do
please feel free to interact with me or any of the office
bearers with your suggestions, ideas and positive reactions
on any matter of importance. We would value them most and in
turn will help us to serve you better.
