Dear Fellow Members,
Let me express my sincere thanks to all Members of the Club for giving me this opportunity. It is a great honour. It is not an easy task, and I am trying to derive strength from my illustrious predecessors to lead my team to meet your expectations. I look forward to your whole hearted support in our efforts to move forward.
I write this after watching the gruelling battle between Roger Federer and Andy Roddik in the Wimbledon centre court, a match no tennis player should have missed and forget for a long time to come. I hope our young boys and girls would seek inspiration from such players and aspire to follow their foot prints. As a growing club we need to build up an archive of such events and development/training programmes for the benefit of the budding talents
Professional tennis has become literally an invisible game. It takes hardly 2/3 of a second for a 130 mph serve to reach the receiver! To develop a player to reach such level is unperceivable to many of us. But we should not be left behind.
We can at least confidently say that we have generated a passion for tennis, particularly in the minds of the young and upcoming. Mr.Paul Tornquist, our new Tennis director has taken the lead to redefine the way tennis is perceived and is focussing on quality training programmes. I am sure that his dedicated efforts will fetch us good results in the near future.
We have developed better infrastructure to enable us to play tennis even late in the evening with the lighting up of the first court. Evening tennis is becoming more and more popular among Members and better utilisation of such facilities will be desirable for many reasons.
This year we are going to witness a major event - the National Games by May 2010. These will have remarkable effect on our developmental activities and we need to scale up our preparedness for handling such mega events. Such challenges need to be faced with professional outlook and managerial skills and we have no dearth of such talents.
Apart from our focus on tennis, we need to address means to improve the social fabric of the club. Events like Members tennis, Family get together, cultural programmes, social outings etc may yield some positive results. However improvements in interpersonal relationships and more cordial member environment will have positive bearing on our efforts to take the Club to new heights.
The new group of Office Bearers has many new faces and is rich in young blood. This is an encouraging sign and with your whole hearted support they can outperform. On their behalf let me assure you a year full of activities.
